Say hello to our new Residents
Fresh Eggs and Clucks
So began the conversion of a glassless greenhouse on the grounds into a Chicken run with fresh netting and the addition of a Chicken coop bought locally from the Secret Valley (another tale on its own). This allowed the new residents to move in at Hillcroft Escapes. For the four Warren and two White Leg Bars they had enough room for them to be safe overnight and the freedom to enjoy the wood during the day whilst we were out and about with them.
However, whilst we were buying the Chicken Coop off Thomas, who resides in Secret Valley, he mentioned that he would be selling one of his chicken runs if we were interested. Needless to say we made the return trip a couple of weeks before Christmas to take it down with him and bring it here to Hillcroft. We had the only dry day in between a rainy few days here in Pembrokeshire to take it to pieces. A couple of days later we had it all up and running and the hens are enjoying their new place.
Though this time of year hens produce less eggs ours are happily providing 3 - 4 a day between them which is more than enough for us, so hopefully next year we should be able to share eggs with our guests if they want them for a breakfast, an omelette or salad later in the day, maybe a quiche if they are feeling adventurous enough.
Do say hello to the girls if you are visiting, take care
